This Columbus, Ohio couple are sports fanatics, but their house was divided. Not by a love of rival teams, but from a wall. “They suffered from a separated living and cooking space,” explained Jim Deen, senior designer of Kitchen Kraft, located in Columbus, Ohio. “Their kitchen was boxed in on two sides and had a window that looked into the living room, leaving the cook to watch parties from the outside looking in.”
Deens clients expressed their desire to host sports parties and to not miss a minute of the game or time with friends and family. They wanted to combine the kitchen and living space into one open space. This would mean removing walls, and widening the kitchen. In addition, they wanted more storage, a dry bar, and strategically placed TV’s throughout the area.
Deen flexed his design muscles and came up with a slam dunk. He removed the two walls that boxed in the kitchen and added columns for support. By removing the wall dividing the kitchen from the living space he was able to have a large island overlook the combined spaces. It created the perfect gathering place with seating on two sides. Televisions were placed in key areas to ensure no one missed a minute of any sports event.
The other wall removed opened up a small hallway where a dry bar and extra storage were placed. White cabinets helped the space appear and feel larger and wood flooring tied the kitchen and living spaces together. Granite countertops and stainless steel appliances added a sense of luxury and clean lines.
Let the games begin.
